One man’s meat…

Is another man’s poison – as stated by a medical colleague of mine who I sent the IBM article off to this morning. Between him and two others, one being my brother we all agreed (or at least seem to) on one thing. A system like the one that IBM has come up with is close, but doesn’t quite get to what the doctors in the field need to have when working with a patient. Sure the interface is flashy, but at the end of the day, you need to be able to get at content in a manner that is as simple as possible. No need for a fancy avatar when everyone knows where the “head bone” is connected anyway, no need for pointing to a “arm bone” and pulling up related heath docs and patient info when a simple diagram and good supporting documentation will do just fine.

So it seems that my hunch was right – a system like this is better for teaching the basics of anatomy and providing enrichment material, but in the doc’s office, it might not fly very high.
