iPod Touch = Apple Tablet

One of the things that came to me yesterday when I saw the iPod Touch and after watching the previews that are much like the iPhone previews is that Apple has it’s tablet. But it’s not a tablet – tablets are still kinda the black sheep of the mobile computing space. They have a cool interface, but are still a laptop first. Nokia with it’s Internet Tablet (770) and obviously Apple with it’s iPhone are tablets that are also phones – but in between is the space that the PDAs (check this out) used to fill. It’s something that in terms of education is a sweetspot – if only there was a device that was useful there. You don’t need the phone element, and you don’t need much more than WiFi and small storage – you need something that students can take to class in their pockets, type up their notes and look up resources when needed.

I’m planning on picking one up to see if this is indeed doable – take it to meetings and conferences – and if it works out, I think I might have my team start developing for this platform. I’m also thinking that this would make a “killer clicker” – or Student Response System.
