Hello everyone, If you are eager to see the pictures from the weekend (it felt like a week – it was a great escape), it’s likely going to be a few days before I can sort and process all the pictures that I took – 1500 or there abouts ( i LOVE slr 🙂 ). If you are going and wondering what you are going to need for a lens, you want something that is about 17mm on a 1.6 crop wide. This way you can get close and still shoot things without people being in the shot and it’s also wide enough that you can get most if not all buildings in as well. You can go as long as you want, but I would think that you don’t really need more than about 55 to get most shots pulled in to a reasonable distance. So what does this mean for all those people “what lens to bring?”… just bring the kit lens… that will be good enough – it’s not as sharp as others, but you are not going to miss anything.
I brought my new 17-55 and it never left my camera in the park – only once in my room when I was taking some macro shots of flowers that I got for my wife. I was thinking that I needed to swap lenses to get good dark ride shots, but that wasn’t: a) possible b) convenient and c) needed. If you are there with family and you have to change a lens, you are going to slow people down… I would avoid it, unless you have really understanding family. Even if you do, it will try their patience.
There was only maybe one or two times that I was thinking my 28-135 would have helped (one of them when we spotted Mickey climbing the Matterhorn).
