I’ve posted before as to how technology has made many production enterprises far more accessible now than they ever were before. Now here is a story out of the New York Times about how k-12 kids are taking to video production.
While I don’t agree that every kid wants to go into film, I do agree that it helps all types of learners. To do a video well, there is a wide skill set that needs to be employed and even though you might occassionally find someone adept (to a limited degree) at all aspects, you will always find that with a team, far more can be accomplished.
So if there is a chance to be a little bit more open ended in the interpretation of an assignment, why not let the students shoot it and show you what they can do with these “new fangled moving images”… you might even get a “talkie”.
