Upgraded to WordPress 2.05

Ok, this is perhaps a lame post, but it’s something that I think many people may be looking for. I just did another painless (well almost) upgrade to WordPress, with the entire process taking about 30 minutes in the backgroud, including the backups of my files and database. So what was the “almost bit”? Well after I upgraded, the admin panel was fine (and fast compared to the 2.01 that Netfirms has as their current installed version) but my blog looked like this:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function register_sidebar_widget() in …boora.ca/blog/wp-content/plugins/widgets/ActiveDiscussions.php206

Not fun. So it turns out that some widgets are not happy with 2.05, I didn’t think that it would be an issue because I had deactivated my plugins. But as it turns out, the way that WordPress works is that there are little lines of code buried all over the place. So when you upgrade, make not of these error messages because they will tell you were to go to fix things. So for me, I deleted the file and it came up fine (and again fast). Then as I fired up the plugins one by one, I noticed similar errors popping up because there are some plugins that are needed to render the blog itself, but a few click later, it seems that everything is back in the black.
