Real stab at School 2.0 – from the UK

I got this link from Michael who pointed out that there really isn’t that much noise out there for the school that is really practicing what many of us have been thinking in terms of School 2.0. Knowsley Council in Merseyside is opening the school/learning centers from 7 am until 10 pm on the weekdays and 9 am to 8 pm on the weekends with instruction being online and with mixed ages.

I think this is the “big thing”, that this may indeed create a learning community with the ability for children and parents to be learning at the same time, in the same place – enabling family time when needed, creating learning as a family activity in a dedicated learning environment that is more than “just the library” (apologies to the librarians out there, you do great work, but there is still a general image issue to deal with) all the while showing that learning is truly life long through indirect modeling to the children.

Of course this is without knowing any more than what is written in the article, but this is what I can see happening there and elsewhere should the model spread.

The one thing I do hope is that there is some manner of help available on site for the learners should issues arise.
