While the storm that we had last weekend wasn’t as close to my house as the storm last summer was when I caught some amazing lightening shots, this one was certainly no slacker when it came to sheet lightening.
At first I was a bit disappointed not being able to get the same sort of shot that I did last year, but then I quickly realized that just like every other shooting situation out there – things will never be the same twice.
If they are – say at static locations like the “Grand Canyon”, you are likely not wanting to take the same kind of shot every time. So just like photography as a technical exercise is about capturing a moment that will never likely repeat itself, photography as a pursuit should also be the same, not matter how much we might want to “try again” to get the shot.
I know that one day in the future, I’ll be able to get another amazing lightening shot, but when that happen will happen, I don’t know. When it does, as likely as not, it will certainly be a compromise between the events that are happening and where I’m able to capture them from, I might have a perfect hill top viewing of a massive storm, but there will likely be something else that I will wish was somehow different there as well, just like every other unique shooting situation.
