Elk I

This shot is from last week – and is one of those on my “life time shot list”. When we arrived at the Pallisades Camp, the first thing that we were told was to watch out for the rutting elk because “they are not themselves”. So I was hoping to see one, little did I know we’d be visited by these amazing creatures only hours later.

It was amazing to see one of these animals this close (maybe 50m). There were two of us shooting pictures and it was an interesting combination of euphoria and fear. We knew that there were many female elk around and we had heard one other bull elk as well. Not knowing when and where the animals may pop out, we were constantly looking out to see where the other animals were. Lucky for us, there were a couple of others with us who were also looking out for us. I can certainly now appreciate the appeal of wildlife photography, it is certainly one step up from urban wildlife shots.

There was another sighting the next morning, but I wasn’t in the same area to take more pictures.
