Yes, this is a real photo – taken from the gutter of the famous Champs-Élysées with no cars. Why the gutter? Well I could have taken it from one of the islands, but that would have been a bit riskier… and thinking back, I wish I had – though I have one shot from the middle standing. This is what Paris looks like as spring is starting to break in late December. It’s almost like this out there now as spring seems to be breaking in Edmonton as well. One thing that I learned from this trip to Europe was that it is very important to research your pictures in advance, so you can get an idea of the types of shots that you might be able to take. This is especially important if you are trucking around and doing the travel photographer thing, stopping only long enough to snap a shot before moving on. The true luxury would be if you have time to shoot again and again, but unless you are alone, you are more than likely going to annoy the rest of your party. So on top of everything else that is a compromise in photography, so is the time that you have to take the shots.
