Well, I’ve been driving Stitch around for just over a week now and I’m on track for about 750 to as much as 800km on a 65L tank and I’ve noticed a few things:
- you can’t be afraid of the gas engine… as cool as running on electrical only is, it’s not always possible – so it is ok to burn gas (that is why there is a gas tank anyway right?), just do it with a light foot to keep the efficiency high.
- people will stare, both my wife and I have noticed people noticing the the SUV that is silent pulling up beside them – or if there is a sound, it’s the stereo or a little whir from the re-generative brakes.
- people don’t expect polite SUV drivers – I try to be courteous on the road, but like so many others who have driven and still drive a small (perhaps underpowered) car and have been almost run over by an idiot driving a Hummer or Escalade, seeing an SUV pull up behind or beside you can be a cue to get into defensive driving mode quickly ’cause you might need it.
- Driving calmly, enjoying the time with family and friends between destinations rather than trying to weave around all the pylons (I understand that everyone is pylon for the next person as it may be) is a great way to go and makes trips a pleasure.
I’m hoping this isn’t all the influence of the new-car smell, but I know that it is different than when we got the Matrix (Eeyore) which with it’s small size and pep, is fun to drive.
