Well it seems that 2.05 still on occasion will eat posts… so here is my second run at this…
OLDaily spotted Kelly Edmonds new paper (Off with their heads! Copyright infringement in the Canadian online higher educational environment) in CJIT that covers copyright from the Canadian perspective.
The article covers current law as well as the coming (if we don’t have an election soon) C-60, covering how to stay above the line when it comes to copyright in Canada. Basically it seems that as long as you are not going to make money from it, distribute it in any way outside of the class, keep it’s original form and don’t forget to cite, you should be ok.
The article is sectioned for students and faculty and gives several good tips for staying clear of those who would love to ding another person for copyright infringement. The conclusion is also very well put, pointing out that copyright was originally a vehicle to promote sharing, but along the way it has become a means of protecting profits. She also suggest that it is time for copyright to match today’s reality when it comes to the way that the various new media (largely digital) are used to create and distribute content.
