Well, I’ve upgraded my systems to 10.5 and even though most things are looking good and “feeling snappier TM. But all is not milk and honey. On the MacBook Pro, the USB2.0 ports are acting very 1.0ish (so that is meaning no power) and Pocket Mac isn’t seeing my Blackberry, so that is annoying (to say nothing of the issues that the new DST switch are having with my calendar). I really wish Apple would sync the BB natively.
Technical issues aside, I noticed something about the new elements of the UI – Cover Flow for docs is kinda cool, Spaces can be useful on the small screen and the new integration of elements in Mail (notes and to dos) will rock at work; the only thing that I have seen that the “average” user will see that is different is the login screen and the stationary in Mail. On the latter, I don’t know how many average users are going to move off of webmail and the former… oooh…
I do like the prominence of Time Machine – reminding people that backup is essential and providing a very easy way for them to do it.
So why do I think Apple went through all the other changes? I think they are going for the *nix geeks, and trying to get into the IT office to later get into the traditional biz office (especially with the cool stuff like Podcast Producer and the collaboration tools for wikis and CalDev).
Hoepfully in short order, there will be an update from RIM or PocketMac (otherwise it’s Mark/Space time!) and with any luck all my staff will have no issues upgrading either.
