Low rel M blogging – nee Twitter

I found an interesting article through a couple of routes today on Twitter.

They list all manner of pros and cons, but I think the con that is the most interesting to look at is low relevance when compared to the pro of microblogging. This contradiction seems, to me at least, to be something that has been leveled at many new technologies that enable quicker communication.

Just as SMS gets a bad wrap for destroying language because it has to fit in 256 characters, twitter has to fit within 140. To me, to get a complete idea across in this short span, takes some pretty deep thinking at times (think Haiku) and the ability to have twitter maintain a log makes it potentially very interesting, it can be very useful as “sidenotes” on life, akin to blogs being an archive of complete or near complete thoughts.

It might be a useful way to track and update research or work groups as to what is going on, but it can certainly chew through time like there was no tomorrow as well.
