A few days ago, I was going to post on the ability to use Darwine to run IE on the Mac but then I got side tracked. Then this afternoon, I stumbled on this – Ars has found enough stuff in Leopard that Apple could have Windows apps running without Bootcamp.
Part of me is thinking that these bits that have been found are common to most *nix systems, but since Apple closed Darwin on Intel compatible OSes, I don’t think this was one of those things that was “just left over”, there is likely a reason for this to exist. If it does come to fruition, I hope that layer is separated from the OSX layer in such a way that viri and other malware can’t jump over – though to be of any use, it will have to have the ability to access at least the file system and that could cause all the trouble that the hackers would/could want for a while.
