Edmodo twitters in the classroom

There is nothing to prevent teachers (should they have the time) from using Twitter in the classroom if the network admins allow it. But if Twitter is deemed non educational, there is now another resource out there. Edmodo claims that is the free communication platform for education. It is currently in alpha and is taking signups. You can see what the service should look like here. This may again be one of those services that gets frowned on out of the US, but with the fleeting nature of the communications, it might not matter as much.
