Well it seems that the shoe has officially dropped and the 30D has gone the way of the 20D (ie there is now a 40D out there so all older bodies are going to start to die). It seems to me that the 40D is a Rebel XTi with a 30D chassis. There are specs a plenty out there, and I’m sure that there are going to be people jumping all over this, but now would be a really good time to get into pro-sumer dSLR bodies with very capable 20D and 30D bodies dropping in prices.
One thing that I like, but doesn’t make it a “killer app” is the take on Live View (I think for most, the weight of the camera system will negate the ease of use with Live View. Weather sealing is also pretty cool.
Live View mode displays your images in real-time on the camera’s LCD – directly from the CMOS sensor – almost exactly as they will appear in your photos. Such precision feedback greatly enhances your speed and efficiency when composing shots in studios or on location. Live View mode now includes convenient AF Shooting, which can be activated by simply pressing the AF-ON button. No image is displayed while the button is pressed. Once the button is released, the focused image is displayed and can be captured with a press of the shutter button. Live View mode also includes new Silent Shooting, which is made possible by an electronic 1st-curtain shutter on the CMOS sensor that enables shooting with the mechanical shutter completely open. Since there is no shutter cocking noise, operation is almost completely silent.
