Ars reviews Lightroom

Ars Technica has it’s review of Lightroom 1.0 out, but if you are reading this here, you are likely looking for an Aperture vs Lightroom descision aid. So here is their take on the battle. They say that Aperture needs a super fast video card heavy Mac, but I don’t think so. I’ve got my Dual 2 G5 with 2GB and a 64MB video card and things are perhaps a touch pokey, but certainly usable. Of the new Macs, it will even run on the mini, so I don’t think that con is valid. I do agree with them about the ability to bump colors is better in Lightroom, but if you are this deep into the decision tree and don’t have CS in one of it’s almost three forms, then I think you should look into Lightroom. But most of you likely have and then it becomes work flow oriented and for me, I like Aperture – which also supports plugins to some degree – I know it has one at least for Flickr.

Ars also says that Aperture screams to allow you to buy more powerful hardware… which it might, but only if you are patient and start putting out some gold for your significant other… otherwise, I’ll wager all you’ll here is… do you really need it?
