If you have every wondered what it would take to build your own Segway, you can come pretty close using NXT as this team has (YouTube). The whole Segway thing never really took off as many were predicting it would, but one place that it might really have helped things out is in robotics as the Lego version demonstrates as does the Muppet Mobile Lab. Compared to bipedal robots (Honda’s Asimo or Korea’s KAIST HUBO), the wheeled versions of autonomous robots might bear fruit far faster.
