One of the things that people like about prime lenses is that they are fast and sharp, and with 1.X apertures, they have an amazingly small depth of field, especially close up.

So I was playing with my 60mm 2.8 Macro and realized that for a side on shot, 2.8 is really too thin, s I upped it to 5. I tried a few at smaller apertures as well, but they were too dark for my setup.

To get the black background in this picture, I didn’t use a black sheet as some of my friends thought, but rather, I set the flash power to the point that it would only light my subject and the shadows in the background would take care of anything in the background.
