This weekend, my wife’s car was vandalized while in the parkade underneath our condo, so I’ve been dropping her off to her car pool in the morning and then suffering the commute back to campus (living close to campus, I walk in), I was listening to the radio – across various stations and most of the air time for the last couple of days has been filled with ads or talk.
This is likely what is behind the surge in satelite radio, FM transmitters and iPods in general. People just don’t want to listen to the innane babble of celebrity gossip and what the radio personalities are doing… or maybe they do – the ads around the babble must be making money for someone right?
So that got me thinking, what about setting up a podcast that is themed with some “related” gossip or news to the content that you want to deliver, some songs that are remixed enough to satisfy copyright requirements, throw in “ads” that are creative projects from previous students (or make an entire podcast of student ads) and then mix that up with the lecture content (delivered in an appropriately radio personality). This might be something in a 30 minute package that you might be able to get people to listen to while they are watching the billowing exhaust, the other people on the buss roing ’round ‘n ’round or wondering just how much makeup that person is trying to put on in the next car.
