Silent Cells

I know I’ve been one to threated to tak away cell phones in a lecture. It’s an empty threat to remind kids to turn their phones to a silent mode, but now New York (C|Net) has done it one a large scale. Even though they can be annoying for many, they don’t have to be if they are used in the school context in a productive manner as Prensky or Mr. Belshaw suggest (Sept 26th edit).

Though I still think it’s going to be far too much to ask of many parents to pay for their children’s new school supply, the ubiquity and emerging power of the device lend it to all sorts of other uses, most importantly digital storytelling – what better way to tell the story of the millenials than to use their tools? Grace Rubenstein over at Edutopia has collected a few stories that are very much along these lines.
