Woo Wii!

Some more info on the Wii here, some of it being good for those of us who are looking to use consoles as an educational platform and others that are looking for the return of real innovation when it comes to game design. The first is that Wii will play Flash games through the Opera browser. Yes, you’ll have to pay for the browser, but that way you’ll have access to so much content out there that it “won’t even be funny”. I think that Wii is going to be everything that PS2 was hoping to be all those many moons ago when it went online with talk of a browser. Wii is trying to be different. I think that is what is really going to help it. It’s not an uber media device like the PS3 and not a marketplace like Xbox360 (though I’ve really been impressed by the XBox360 so far).

The second bit of news is that Wii Sports will be included with the system and finally that the Wii will be priced at €249 and £179 for Europe and the UK respectively.

This puts the console in a very enviable position as being cheap and flexible. Though there may be a limit to what the browser can do (hopefully not), that means that EDIT people looking to get in some content centric time with the gaming generation now have a fighting chance, not having to rely on publishers looking to move volume.
