As we are now some 70 days into the “at home” paradigm, and with some elements of the economy and society opening up things are moving toward a sticky turning point. For parents helping their children “learn from home” are dealing with screen fatigue with the novelty of life through video chat erodes. For children, so many “other things” are starting again, but school is not. Parents working from home have likely got to the point where their initially assigned projects are done, but now the well is running dry and that adrenaline that powered the first few weeks has also fallen away. Granted these are concerns for some, but not all. This is a thought for those who this is a problem.
When the world retreated home, the work or the learning that was underway wasn’t structured for remote completion. This wasn’t a huge issue as many of the tasks that needed to be completed only required the transmission of information. As the content was already being transferred, the completion of that transfer was not overly difficult. New tasks could be a challenge for many.
Online learning and dedicated work from home paradigms have processes for starting new topics or projects, but how does or would someone add those processes to a course or job that hasn’t thought of this? There needs to be something to provide motivation, structure, and metrics. It will be interesting to see how the next 70 some days go as people will need to start new tasks.
