I was thinking that I should have done one of my more creative abstracts this week, but I thought, in honor of Bug’s birthday party (the reason why there was no post last Friday) and in line with some of what I had wrote about in the last POW, I made a conscious effort to try to get an entire cupcake in focus – and as it happens, I got two. And not just any two, two that seem to tell a cute story of this shot… a mass of bubble bee cupcakes lined up to meet their maker (figuratively and literally), all but one looking forward and one looking up, seemingly wonder what is really going on here.
I could have blurred out the forward facing cake in post, but then I would have lost the story. I would have had fun with a Lensbaby as well, but that would have been a different shot again.
Finally, I don’t usually shoot food creatively, but it does seem to be quite interesting – if the food is plated and presented with passion, it really shows and it makes it something compelling to shoot. In that way, food photography can capture not only the art of the food, but also the memories of the meal – the downside… I might annoy the girls pulling out the camera to nap meals – we did it one trip, but to do it all the time, I don’t think will make me popular with my dining companions.
