This one isn’t the most impressive specimen that I’ve seen this summer – though with everything showing up late, there really haven’t been that many to shoot. I put this up as my POW because dragonflies are one of those things that are on my shot list. They are not really that easy to shoot as I’ve found – they tend to be very sensitive to extra motion and if they get spooked, they can take off in any direction – making it tricky to anticipate where to reframe.
With respect to the thoughts that I put up over the last few weeks about unique shots and all that – I know that eventually I’ll be able to get a better shot of a dragonfly. This one is essentially the one to take put the check on my list. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to get a bigger specimen who isn’t very skittish on a colorful background on a bright day so I can get the whole body in focus and then be able to play with DOF.
