Canon 5D MkII

Ok, so all those Canonites who poo-pooed Nikon for the D90 and the video recording feature, I guess the 5DMkII will sting a bit. I think it is interesting to see “pro” style video entering the consumer realm through these higher end SLRs. A pro video camera has an assortment of lenses, just like an SLR, so I guess this transition was a no brainer. It also seems to kinda “fit” into Flickr allowing video… maybe they knew this was coming.

I think it will be interesting to see over the next 5 years, as the video feature makes it’s way into prosumer and eventually consumer level bodies how video will change – I’m thinking that they are going to become much more artful – or visually literate. I can also see this as a great tools for those involved in the movie industry (either pros or students) who are learning photography/cinematography as they can now take full quality shots with these “convergence devices”.

I’m pretty sure I can now pick up a MkI 5D body cheap… but now what about the 1D lines… what kind of super video mojo will they get – or will they?

This is an example of Nikon’s video feature – I’ll add Canon’s when I get the chance:
