This is really impressive to have been cropped from a 55mm shot. I think I would have had pretty good luck if I brought my 28-135 to the dance (literally and figuratively) over the long weekend. So as I learn the best length for various situations, I’m sure I’ll be able to get even better shots. So far – on a crop body – 17mm for indoor shots, 2.8 is what you desire to be able to do unless there is lots of natural light. 28mm is almost too long for indoor shots. Dance/school recitals, you want at least 55mm to zoom from the middle of the seating, and 17mm wide will frame the stage nicely. Now I have to create a situation where 255 or 300mm would be ideal.
