Sometimes I wonder if there is any way to really differentiate these terms as there as some people who think that even being in the same room as someone else working on the same project would constitute plagiarism. I have some personal experience with this as in my first undergrad a prof who told the class that they could work together accused me of copying. The only thing that was the same between me and my partner was the original data set. After that, everything was different. He gave us a zero and took us to the Chair who quickly told the prof that he was nuts and let us go.
Hopefully that is the exception and not the rule, but for those who are interested, there is another detection tool out there now – DOC Cop.
