I’ve been a big fan of DoubleTake for quite a while as it creates great pannos and allows for user input into the stitching, but it seems that with my new lens, there are barrel distortions that DoubleTake doesn’t quite like to or want to deal with. So hunting around (and incidentally on a review of DT) I found Calico. This is an amazing piece of software (and for $39USD it should be) but it offers very little user tweaking, but for how good it is, it would likely never need it. I threw some of the trickier pannos from the last trip at it and it put them all together almost flawlessly. There were a few shots that had pretty nasty distortion on the edges and there was a bit of shadowing, but nothing that can’t be taken out with a bit of Photo Shop. I don’t think I’ll get Calico just yet, I’ll wait and see how DT develops for a while, but if my stitching needs start to increase, I might just drop the dough on Calico.
