Am I Witty Jack?

Well, I think I”ll stay on the Pirates theme for this post as well and let you all know what my first experiences have been with the BB 8100 nee “the Pearl”.

This morning, I realized that I was going to need more than just my work appointments on my phone, I’m going to need my personal information as well. So what am I to do? Well, I thought it would be as easy as taking my Google Calendar, subscribing to it with iCal and then exporting it and then sucking it into Entourage. To this I found out that Entourage, even with it’s updates doesn’t allow for any import of .ics/ical files. Grr… So then I have to figure a way to get Entourage to talk to iCal, well that sounded like an easy task – enable sync services and then move the tasks over to the Entourage calendar in iCal and then easy-peezy… nope. As it turned out, I completely hosed Entourage as it tried to sync the new information in. Even after nuking the prefs and checking the database, no salt. So I had to bring everything over from my backup and then it started up again.

So with Entourage back in the pink, I thought I’d use the old “third wheel” trick and sync everything to the Blackberry in one direction and then dump that back to Entourage. That seemed to work. But where is the pirate reference?

Well it seems that the Pocket Mac software the RIM chose isn’t exactly the slickest or most fully featured sync app there is (I’m thinking about getting Missing Sync). It’s buggy and holey! Just like the sails of the movie galleon. On my Macbook Pro, I need to do a restart to get things to work, on my Macbook – nice and white like a regular ship… everything is smooth.

More thoughts as they come to me.
