Well, this update went much smoother than the other WP updates that I have done. At one point I was looking at running both this site and the blog site from within the same WP, but I don’t think that would work. It will be too much of a hassle for me to figure out how to ensure it works and to get everything moved over properly. I might very well try on my test domain, but for now, I’ll be keeping that which isn’t broken, running as is.

Out of Isolation

It looks like my story in the Edmonton Journal has come out of isolation as well and has been syndicated across the Canwest/Global/canada.com system. So I’ve seen it in papers from Vancouver to Montreal often with people asking questions about either the Nike system or motivation along the way. I guess I can now think of myself as a national running micro-celebrity And hey, I’ve put in my application for the Nike Running Correspond, so if anyone from Nike is looking/reading Hello!

Little Big Run

Well, kicking out a new PB of 45:15 was pretty sweet, but getting the whole family (less one who had First Aid training today) was a real win. The weather was giving us every out under the sun (and since it was snowing and raining, there was no sun) so that we all went out and made it was a plus. I can cross another resolution off – to go? Half Marathon in August and two more photo gigs for friends I have yet to meet.

Oh, and for the record, as we were coming home, the sun finally came out and the snow/rain mix stopped… gotta love Alberta weather. Official results are 86 (Overall) 2650 (Bib) 48:16 (Gun) 47:58 (Chip) 4:48/km (Pace) vs my Nike time of 45:15 (slowgeek)

Up in the Air

Well it seems that things are still up in the air. I’m still disrupted, but I’ve got a short term contract in the VPIT’s office doing some really interesting work. I haven’t been sitting still over this involuntary break, I’ve been working on a PhD application as well as my running. I’ve managed three long runs one 19k and two 21km. So I think I’m on track for a good first race half marathon in August.

Disrupted

The technical language is “my position is being disrupted”. Which is the biz speak for being laid off. Yes, I’m now one of those statistics that you hear about. Me and my entire team. I found this image by accident, but it seems uniquely fitting to my situation. I hope I land on my feet soon, but it’s going to be a period of making some tough choices. Hopefully this is a door that needed to close to allow another one to open.

Bug and the Nexus One

Neither are really built to sleep, they want to interact all the time, both are small and peppy and take very little to recharge. Both have alarms that you may or may not be able to set to when you would like them to really go off. …

Well, 14 gold medals, thank you “own the podium” for giving up on your team on your own turf. The world counts gold medals, not total medals why don’t we? Congrats Olympic team Canada for showing up the pencil pushers.

Well, all of Aishani’s parties are done -first birthday wise. It’s really been interesting to see “who” was there a year ago and who was able to make it out this time. Not to say anything bad about the people who were busy, because they would have come if they could have – but the quotes being there to suggest that we’ve all changed so much over the past year. It really does feel like it was yesterday. I remember not knowing what the time was, I remember making sure the girls were asleep before passing out on my hospital bench waiting for Aishani to wake up so I could pass her to Neelam. Today, she can walk on her own and she would like it very much if she could feed herself thank you very much. Of course she’s not free of us just yet, but this little girl we’ve been blessed with is certainly helping me see change and appreciate things that I never thought would have ever really been there to consider.

What a year

This time last year, I was waiting to meet my baby together with Neelam who was getting ready for the OR. The temperature was -39 outside and I think I was a bit scared. Fast forward a year, Bug is the shining gem of my life (along with Neelam of course), it is +7 outside and I’m pretty mellow with the idea with raising a little girl. I could go on forever, but I’ll stop there.
