Even though it seems that MS (cell phones – which mind you may have much more traction and with Google’s push to bring ads there as well, the cost could plumit – though I would hate having ads on my cell, but then that is likely what I would have though just before Google brought ads to search) and Intel (Eduwise) are still in the ring against the OLPC project, AMD has announced that it’s pulling out of the race. In light of $99 laptops available from retailers already maybe the whole idea of a “regular” laptop for cheap is a mute point and the considerations for infrastructure that have been made by OLPC and ubergadget solutions may be why those solutions are moving while others are dying.
