Multitasking

The Washington Post published an article today about how there is a cost associated with multitasking, this supports many other studies (Psychological Science, Association for Psychological Science via Science Daily) have already said. But this brings me to wonder about game based learning and multiple encoding.

Yes, there is a cost to mutitasking, but obviously it is possible and being able to manage branching tasks is something that is likely to pay off. I would think that games can help kids mitagate this trade-off and in the end come out ahead. I didn’t find any articles to suppost this yet, but I’ll look around (unless someone wants to post them in the comments… anyone?)
