This was taken in a series of other macro shots where instead of trying to get a razor thin DOF as I usually do using large apertures, this time I stopped down. One of the issues that I had with this in the past was being able to get enough light. This has been remedied quite handily by the reflector card and wide angle screen on the 580exII, especially when you step up the power.

Using the flash, I was able to get almost the image that I wanted. I got the subject and the background that looks like a light tree with some nice bokeh. But there is some significant shadow, which if I used my second flash as a slave I could have dealt with, but then I might have flooded out the background. If I get a chance, I am going to do this shot the same way, but on the tripod with a long exposure and see what the difference turns out to be.
