In order to communicate a message needs to encoded and decoded in an efficient manner. One of the knocks on SMS is that it might take less time to hammer out, but that it seems to take longer to read. Thankfully now, we have some evidence to this effect.Of course there is some influence of age in the study – older people used to full sentences are slower reading the txts of youth and there is also some influence of society as txt written by British youth is very much different than those hammered/thumbed out by Canadian youth eg. “Iz Jus Tryna Live Ma Lyf…So STOP Suffocatin` Me!!!!” vs “how r you sins long time havent talks to you or any 1 any way say hell to mom n da”.
I must be one of those older folk as I can read these, but it would be so much easier to write properly – that way encoders and decoders can meet in the middle, saving time and confusion. Otherwise one side will always end up with the shaft… can ya digg it?
